    The Australian War Memorial can fill much of a wet day on its own. Check its current gallery hours and any tours or ceremonies you want to attend, then leave enough time to explore without racing onward.

    Choose one cluster rather than zigzagging across the city. The National Gallery, National Portrait Gallery, Questacon and Old Parliament House sit around the National Triangle, so you can select two that match your interests.
